Dan Muroff is an attorney and government relations advocate in private practice, where he has led efforts to advance the missions of charitable, arts and cultural institutions. Dan has led efforts to aid women transitioning into the workforce, expedite federal funds to build affordable housing for persons with disabilities and secure government funding for neighborhood improvements across the Philadelphia region.
Early in his career, Dan worked for four years in the environmental industry, including as a field chemist. He went on to work in Chicago, in Cook County’s Department of Planning, Office of Economic Development, before moving to Washington to serve in senior legislative positions in the federal government. On Capitol Hill, Dan served in the offices of Congressman Tom Foglietta (PA-01) and Congressman Kika de la Garza (TX-15) before serving as senior legislative assistant to Massachusetts Congressman Jim McGovern (MA-03), where he led efforts on behalf of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts through the reauthorization of the federal highway bill. After leading appropriations, transportation, economic development and environmental efforts in this position, Dan was named Chief of Staff to then-newly elected Massachusetts Congressman Michael Capuano (MA-08) where he established the Washington office and served for four years, overseeing operations, legislation, appropriations, media, whip duties, personnel and office budget.
Dan left Washington to support campaigns in Pennsylvania, serving as policy director for US Congressional candidate Dan Wofford (PA-06) and political director for US Senate candidate Joe Hoeffel (D-PA). He broadened his government service in a senior counsel position in the Pennsylvania State Senate and continues to closely aid and advise many Pennsylvania candidates for federal, state, and local government. In 2016 and 2018, Dan ran for Congress himself, most recently in Pennsylvania’s 7th, which became the newly created 5th Congressional district.
Dan has served as the president of the board of CeaseFirePA, Pennsylvania’s statewide gun violence prevention organization, and as president of Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania, promoting sound and sustainable environmental policy while fighting efforts that would have devastating environmental consequences. When living in Philadelphia, Dan served as president of his community organization, East Mt. Airy Neighbors, as well as Treasurer of his community development corporation, Mt. Airy USA, and also as a Democratic committee person for 14 years. He also served as Philadelphia’s 9th Ward Democratic leader.
Dan is a graduate of Drexel University and earned his Juris Doctor at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. He is admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar.
Dan was raised in Havertown, where he lived for 25 years. He now lives in the Marple Township with his wife Melissa and their dog Luca.
